Midlands family starts early
June 2010
Isabel McNulty, from Wolverhampton, South Staffordshire is already familiar with the benefits of The Student Support Centre’s ‘simply’ home tuition programmes as she works at the Midlands regional office as well as being a busy mum to two little boys.
Lively Luke (aged 4) started nursery last year and Isabel was keen to get his education off to the best possible start and so began the ‘simply’ reading tuition programme with him. Isabel’s other son, Elliott (aged 2) was causing Isabel some concern as he was behind with his speech and comprehension and the health visitor was even considering having him tested for autism.
One afternoon about three months ago, as Isabel was working through the ‘simply’ tuition programme with Luke, she noticed Elliott standing behind the door, captivated by his mum and brother having so much fun whilst learning! Isabel asked him to join in and ever since then the three of them have been working through the books and learning materials together. Isabel, Elliott and Luke use the programmes together a couple of times a week and the boys really look forward to it; it’s a fun family activity they can all enjoy.
Isabel says of Elliott:
'Since we started the programme, Elliott has learnt all his letter sounds and lots of words and has even started reading books. It has not been me pushing him; it is him pushing me to watch the DVDs. As a result it has highlighted that he is talented and at the age of 2 he is now being assessed to see if he should start nursery early! Luke has also gained a lot of confidence and has dramatically improved with his reading, writing and understanding’
Although the ‘simply’ maths, English and reading home tuition programmes are designed for children aged from four years, this success story proves it’s never too early to start learning!
About The Student Support Centre:
The Student Support Centre opened its doors in 1991 and has since become the largest provider of home-based tuition programmes with 9 regional offices across the UK.
Our ‘simply’ programmes provide home-based tuition and support for children aged between 4 and 17 and are a more cost effective alternative to private tutors for learning maths, English and reading. They have been designed to mirror the way in which children are taught in schools based on the National Curriculum requirements and use the teaching methods currently recommended for use in schools.
